Did You Know this about the cherry.

The Roman General "Lucullus" is said to have committed
suicide when he realized he was running out of cherries.

The U.S. production for tart cherry for the year of 2008 totaled 177 million pounds. Most of the tart cherries that are grown in the U.S. are grown in Michigan  the overwhelming majority (135 million pounds) or 75% will be produced in that state. However Michigan is not even in the running for total cherries production both tart & sweet. Four states
(Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah) produce 70% of the cherries for all of the U.S.

Broadway in New York shifts west at East 10th Street because a cherry tree once stood there.

There are more than 1,000 varieties of cherries in the United States, but fewer than 10 are produced commercially.

Kane, Pennsylvania, is the Black Cherry Capital of the World

At one time it was against the law to serve ice cream on cherry pie in Kansas.

There are about 7,000 cherries on an average tart cherry tree (the number varies depending on the age of the tree, weather and growing conditions), and it takes about 250 cherries to make a cherry pie, so each tree potentially could produce enough cherries for 28 pies.

The Cherry Pit Spit began in 1974, when Herb Teichman, a Michigan cherry farmer, was looking for 'something to do' with cherry pits. Growing from a neighborhood get-together to an international competition, the Cherry Pit Spit is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as an official competition.

'Pellet Gun' Krause is the 10-time winner of the International Cherry Pit Spitting Championship. Each July hundreds of people from across the country and around the world gather for the Championship. The contest marks the beginning of the harvest of tart cherries in southwest Michigan. Until 1993, Rick 'Pellet Gun' Krause of Arizona held the world record with a spit of 72 feet, 7 inches. Believe it or not, that's more than 20 feet less than the current world record. According to the Guinness Book, the world record is now 95 feet, 9 inches.

Here's your Jokes / Gag for the day

Please Ladies
Hold The Hate Mail
once you read the
jokes below.

It's Only A Joke !

1 -How do you turn a fox into an elephant?                                         Marry It !

2 -What is the difference between a battery and a woman?

A battery has a positive side.

3- If your wife keeps coming out of the kitchen to nag at you, what have you done wrong?

You made her chain too long.

4 - Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?
Because a woman who can't even afford a washing  machine will probably never be able to support you.

5 - Why do women have smaller feet than men?
It's one of  those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sin
k.

6
- If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door,
who do you let in first ?

The dog, of course; He'll shut up once you let him in.

Paper currency (greenbacks) was introduced by President Abraham Lincoln. It had a portrait of Salmon P. Chase, who was the Secretary of the Treasury. It wasn't until 1869 that the $1 bill was redesigned with a portrait of George Washington in the center and a vignette of Christopher Columbus sighting land to the left.

Oregon is 1st state to tax gasoline (1 cent per gallon)
Oregon passes the nation’s first per-gallon tax on gasoline. It’s only a penny, and it’s only one state, but you know where things go from here.
The first gasoline tax was 1 cent a gallon (12.6 cents in today’s money). Gasoline in those days sold for about 25 cents a gallon, which would be a bit more than $3 these days.

Colorado and New Mexico followed Oregon within six weeks to initiate per-gallon taxes. North Dakota followed later in the year. When New York finally joined the procession 10 years later, all 48 states had imposed taxes of 1, 2 or 3 cents per gallon. The federal government levied its first gasoline tax in 1932: a penny a gallon (16 cents today).

Nine decades after its inception, the Oregon gasoline tax is 30 cents imposed by the state, with up to 8 cents more in city and county taxes, and 18.4 cents for the feds. That could add up to 56.4 cents, depending on where you buy. The U.S. average is 48.1 cents a gallon, including the federal levy.

Buddy Holly & The Crickets record "That'll Be the Day"

It was recorded at the Norman Petty studios in Clovis, New Mexico, on February 25, 1957, and issued on Decca's Brunswick label three months later. Because Holly had signed a recording contract with Decca, he was contractually prohibited from re-recording any of the songs recorded during the 1956 Nashville sessions for five years, even if Decca never released them. To dodge this, producer Norman Petty credited the Crickets as the artist on this new recording of "That'll Be the Day" to shield Buddy from possible legal action. Ironically, Brunswick Records was a subsidiary of Decca Records. Once the cat was out of the bag, Decca re-signed Holly to another of its subsidiaries, Coral Records, so he ended up with two recording contracts. His group efforts would be issued by Brunswick, and his solo recordings would be on Coral.

33 Years Ago  On Feb. 25, 1982
The final episode of "The Lawrence Welk Show" aired.
The Show is an American televised musical variety show hosted by big band leader Lawrence Welk. The series aired locally in Los Angeles for four years, from 1951 to 1955, then nationally for another 27½ years via the ABC network, from 1955 to 1971, and first-run syndication from 1971 to 1982. In the years since first-run syndication ended, The Lawrence Welk Show has continued to reach new audiences even today through repeat episodes, broadcast in the United States by Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations.
Channel 3 on Saturday night in the Tampa Bay area.

(1st Stereo TV show) Lawrence Welk's Show in 1958/59 sponsored by Plymouth automobile,  was the first American television program to air in stereophonic sound. Due to the fact that stereophonic television had not yet been invented (it would be 25 more years before it would become standard), ABC instead simulcast the show on its radio network, with the TV side airing one audio channel and the radio side airing the other; viewers would tune in both the TV and the radio to achieve the stereophonic effect.
I'll bet you didn't know that.

Weekly Horoscope: For Feb. 22, 2015  by Georgia Nicols
This is for the week of Feb. 22nd thru Jan. 28th

All Signs:

This week the planets are doing a celestial gavotte. First Saturn squares off with the Sun, and then curtsies to Venus. Then Mars bows to Saturn, while the Sun pairs off with Neptune. The predominant features are Sun in Pisces, Venus and Mars in Aries, and Mercury, which is no longer retrograde in Aquarius. (But it is still in the shadow, which is why we must wait until March 4 to buy big-ticket items like cars and computers.) And there you have it. It's true that money can't buy friends but it will attract a better class of enemy. Of course, this matters little for those of us whose nest egg has turned into chicken feed. )
