EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE   OVER 60

1. Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have  plenty of room at each side.

2. With a 5-lb   potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and   hold them there as long as you can.  Try to reach a full minute, and then relax.

3. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.  After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

4. Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.   (I'm at this level. )

5.
After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag .

Harley Procter introduces Ivory Soap

As the story goes, a large batch of White Soap was mixing when a workman at the factory went to lunch and left the machinery running.  When he returned, he found that air had been worked into the mixture. he decided not to discard the batch of soap because of such a small error, and he poured the soap into the frames.  The soap hardened and it was cut, packaged, and shipped. A few weeks later, letters began arriving at Procter & Gamble asking for more of the soap that floated.  The workman's error had turned into a selling point!

General Electric Company, is formed & incorporated
General Electric was formed through the 1892 merger of Edison General Electric Company of Schenectady, New York, and Thomson-Houston Electric Company of Lynn, Massachusetts.
Other than the light bulb, One of GE's most recognized product for consumers is the GE Monitor-Top refrigerator. This residential refrigerator was introduced by General Electric (GE) to the general public in 1927. GE believed so much in its new product that it committed $18 million dollars to the manufacturing of these refrigerators and another million dollars to advertise them to the public. Over a million of GE Monitor-Top refrigerator first models were produced.    (CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE)

William Taft was the 1st president to throw out the 1st ball at a opening day baseball game.
President William Howard Taft threw out the first pitch at Washington Senators’ Opening Day game vs. the Philadelphia Athletics. Taft was the first president to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game, beginning a storied tradition that has flourished throughout the past century —
Since then, every president except Jimmy Carter has tossed the ceremonial first pitch at least once throughout his presidency to open a new season. Franklin Delano Roosevelt holds the record for most opening day pitches, having opened eight seasons between 1933 and 1941 (missing out in 1939 and throughout America's involvement in WWII).

RMS Titanic sinks at 2:27 AM off the Newfoundland coast
as the band plays on

On April 10, 1912, the Titanic, largest ship afloat, left Southampton, England on her maiden voyage to New York City. The White Star Line had spared no expense in assuring her luxury. A legend even before she sailed, her passengers were a mixture of the world's wealthiest basking in the elegance of first class accommodations and immigrants packed into steerage.

The Washington Post announces the disaster She was touted as the safest ship ever built, so safe that she carried only 20 lifeboats - enough to provide accommodation for only half her 2,200 passengers and crew. This discrepancy rested on the belief that since the ship's construction made her "unsinkable," her lifeboats were necessary only to rescue survivors of other sinking ships. Additionally, lifeboats took up valuable deck space. Four days into her journey, at 11:40 P.M. on the night of April 14, she struck an iceberg. Her fireman compared the sound of the impact to "the tearing of calico, nothing more." However, the collision was fatal and the icy water soon poured through the ship.

It became obvious that many would not find safety in a lifeboat. Each passenger was issued a life jacket but life expectancy would be short when exposed to water four degrees below freezing. As the forward portion of the ship sank deeper, passengers scrambled to the stern. John Thayer witnessed the sinking from a lifeboat. "We could see groups of the almost fifteen hundred people still aboard, clinging in clusters or bunches, like swarming bees; only to fall in masses, pairs or singly, as the great after part of the ship, two hundred and fifty feet of it, rose into the sky, till it reached a sixty-five or seventy degree angle." The great ship slowly slid beneath the waters two hours and forty minutes after the collision

The next morning, the liner Carpathia rescued 705 survivors. One thousand five hundred twenty-two passengers and crew were lost. Subsequent inquiries attributed the high loss of life to an insufficient number of lifeboats and inadequate training in their use.

1st appearance of the San Diego Chicken

Talk about an Only in America success story, one has to look no further than--of all things--a guy who dons a chicken suit for fun and notoriety.

The Famous Chicken, also known commonly as The San Diego Chicken, has reached icon status as a sports and entertainment personality throughout the nation and the world. In his element as an outrageous comic actor, he's as unique and gifted a humorist as any stage has ever seen.

His impact is such that The Sporting News editors named him as one of The Top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports of the 20th Century. He's on a list that includes Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Jesse Owens, Pete Rozelle, Ted Turner and Wayne Gretzky among others.

Former child actor Adam Rich charged with burglary
Former child actor Adam Rich, who played Nicholas Bradford in the TV series "Eight is Enough," was charged Tuesday with felony burglary for allegedly breaking into a West Hills drugstore earlier this month. Rich, 22, entered the pharmacy to obtain drugs, Deputy Dist. Atty. Andrew Diamond said. "It appears as though an audible burglar alarm scared him off." Rich, who is free on $5,000 bail, is scheduled to be arraigned May 1 in Van Nuys Municipal Court. He is also charged with reckless driving.

One day after he was charged with burglary for breaking into a West Hills pharmacy, actor Adam Rich was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at a Northridge department store, Los Angeles police said Wednesday. Rich, 22, who played Nicholas, the youngest child on the television series "Eight is Enough," was arrested Tuesday afternoon as a suspect in the theft of sunglasses and a pair of socks from Bullock's at Northridge Fashion Center.

Weekly Horoscope: For April 15, 2015  by Georgia Nicols
This is for the week of April 12th thru April 18th

Next weekend (Saturday the 18th) we have the only New Moon in Aries all year. It's good to know that from the New Moon until the Full Moon is a preferred time to begin new ventures. Furthermore, the 48 hours of the actual New Moon, is the best time to make resolutions. Why not be the best that we can be? Why not strive to make our situation the best it can be? Everything in life begins with a thought. Consider: From the thought, springs the word; and from the word, springs the deed. Then the deed becomes habit; and habit eventually hardens into character. This is why we are our thoughts. Hmmm, I think I'll have a BLT with mayo. 500 calories. A minute on the lips is a lifetime on the hips. Gulp, I am my thoughts!
