Bananas are one of the few fruits that ripen best off the plant. If left on the plant, the fruit splits open and the pulp has a "cottony" texture and flavor. Even in tropical growing areas, bananas for domestic consumption are cut green and stored in moist shady places to ripen slowly. Banana plants are the largest plants on earth without a woody stem. They are actually giant herbs of the same family as lilies, orchids and palms. Bananas are not grown commercially in the continental United States. They are grown in Latin and South America from countries like Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Honduras, Panama and Guatemala. Bananas are available all year-round. They are harvested every day of the year. Bananas have no fat, cholesterol or sodium. The banana market is controlled by five large corporations - Chiquita (25%), Dole (25%), Del Monte (15%), Noboa (11%) and Fyffes (8%). Most bananas are grown on huge plantations, controlled by these corporate giants. The remaining banana production for export comes from small banana producers. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>
November 5, 2007, Garth Brooks was again named the best selling
solo artist in US history, surpassing Elvis Presley after audited sales
of 123 million were announced.
Johnny Cash’s famous middle finger photo was shot at the Cash concert in 1969 at California’s San Quentin prison by photographer Jim Marshall. The pose was the result of Cash’s response to the request: “John, let’s do a shot for the warden.” Marshall has since said it was “probably the most ripped off photograph in the history of the world.” trivia is from this day in country music com/ When Willie Nelson was faced with a $32 million bill for delinquent taxes, Nelson and the IRS struck a deal: He'd release a compilation of demos, outtakes and stripped-down tunes – appropriately titled The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? – to help pay down his tab. Sales of the IRS Tapes would generate a reported $3.6 million. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

John Lane Sr. Builds 1st Steel Plow
182 Years Ago On May 6, 1833
John Lane built the 1st steel plow in his blacksmith shop 3 miles east of Lockport, Illinois. Lane was advised many times to record his plow with the patent office, but he declined to do so. He explained that his only desire was to benefit others with his ideas and asked for no special recognition or remuneration. However John Lane's accomplishment was obscured by a steel plow made in 1837, also from an old sawmill blade, by blacksmith John Deere in Grand Detour, Illinois. The first plows were very rough wooden tools. People most often used oxen to pull the plow. In fact, it took two yoke of oxen and three people to plow one acre a day. One person would steer the plow, one would drive the team, and another cleared the blade. It would take one person more than two days by himself. Today a mid size tractor can plow 20 acre a day, and a large tractor can do 50 acres or more a day. In the 1930s & 40's one American farmer produced enough agricultural product to feed a total of 4 to 19 people; a family farm was literally meant to feed a family [source: Kirschenmann]. Fast forward 40 years, and that number rises from four people to 73. Fast forward through 80 years of agricultural with fertilizer, sprays for weed & pest control and bioscience innovation, then in the 2010s, one farmer produces enough food to feed 155 people [sources: USDA, Sullivan]. We now have more full-time prisoners than full-time farmers in this country. Now for all you tree hugging, vegetarian, vegan, environmental wacko, global warming nuts.If you don't want to burn fossil fuels, use fertilizers, and spray for pest & weed control.
You are welcome to quit your job and go back to the farm with the other 70 million people that would be required to feed the nation. Chances are your job wouldn't even exist in that world. Oh' don't even think of using a tractor that burns fossil fuel, heck no, you get out ole "Nellie The Mule" and go plow the back 40, should only take a month or two. When your finished for the day, don't you dare go home and turn on the lights and take a hot bath. Heck No, that uses electricity which burns fossil fuel to create. You can go out on the back porch and use the hand pump to splash water over your body. When it's cold you won't take as many baths, and that's good you can save water. Don't you feel better already? Now to make you really feel better "I Don't Have All The Answers" to the problems facing our nation, but you "crazies" don't either. OK now you can start sending the Hate Mail. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

Weekly Horoscope: For May 3, 2015 by Georgia Nicols
This is for the week of May 3th thru May 9th All Signs: Mercury will be retrograde from May 18 to June 12. This is a poor time to buy cars, trucks, bikes, computers, cell phones and printers. (All forms of ground transportation and communication are under the domain of Mercury.) To be real safe, avoid the time a week ahead of and the week after, when Mercury begins to slow down, and when it is catching up to where it was when it first went retrograde. (May 10 - June 27). During this time, auto breakdowns, transportation delays, confused communications and people from the past can be expected. Read on Macduff. The past? Ah yes, what was that line that you hated? "You're not fat - you're just easier to see." CLICK HERE FOR THE WEEKLY HOROSCOPE OF YOUR SIGN <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>
