Last Wednesday was great, we had an overflow of dealers & a large crowd
of buyers showed up in some of the best weather we've had in a while.
Below are some photos taken late in the day after some of the vendors
had packed up and left. This was the first time that we have put
dealers in this section. Click on any photo to enlarge & view slide show.

Weekly Horoscope: For Dec 7, 2014 by Georgia Nicols
This is for the week of Dec. 7th thru Dec. 13th
All Signs: All Signs Pluto is the planet of powerful evolution. Uranus is the planet of revolution and sudden change. Between 2012 and 2015, these two planets bang heads seven times. (The apex being Oct./Nov. 2013 when typhoon Yolanda claimed over 6000 lives.) This week, the sixth of the seven times is occurring; and we see revolutions taking place around us -- racial violence and campus demonstrations against rape to name a few. Revolutions take place in our personal lives, too. Emerson said, "Every reform was once a private opinion." Got any opinions? CLICK HERE FOR THE WEEKLY HOROSCOPE OF YOUR SIGN

The Bagpiper;
The circle of life and down the drain.
Time is like a river. You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has
passed will never pass again. Enjoy every moment of life.
As a bagpiper, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to
play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or
friends, so the service was to be at a pauper's cemetery in the Nova Scotia back
country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost and, being a typical man,
I didn't stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy
had evidently gone and the hearse was no where in sight.
There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly
and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down
and the vault lid was already in place. I didn't know what else to do, so I started to play.
The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart
and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I've never played before
for this homeless man. And as I played "Amazing Grace", the workers began to weep.
They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished, I packed up my bagpipes and started
for my car. Though my head was hung low, my heart was full.
As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, "I never seen
anything like that before, and I've been putting in septic
tanks for twenty years." Apparently, I'm still lost .... it's a man thing.
When you have stopped laughing, be sure to forward this on to others
who would enjoy a good story.

1928 - 86 Years Ago On Dec. 10th Dan Blocker Was Born
He Played "Hoss Cartwright" On The TV Show "Bonanza"
He Played "Hoss Cartwright" On The TV Show "Bonanza"
|
|
Blocker was born Bobby Dan Davis Blocker in De Kalb in Bowie County in northeastern Texas, son of Ora Shack Blocker (1895–1960) and his wife Mary Davis Blocker (1901–1998). The family moved to O'Donnell, south of Lubbock in West Texas, where they operated a store.
The former Blocker Store is now an abandoned building in downtown O'Donnell. He attended Texas Military Institute and in 1946 played football at Baptist-affiliated Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Sul Ross State Teacher's College in Alpine, where he earned a master's degree in the dramatic arts. (Although the "Hoss" character on Bonanza was conceived as lovable but not as clever as his brothers, Blocker was the only cast member with a graduate degree).
Blocker was a high school English and drama teacher in Sonora, Texas, a sixth-grade teacher and coach at Eddy Elementary School in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and finally, a teacher in California. He had worked as a rodeo performer and as a bouncer in a beer bar while a student. He is remembered from his school days for his size of 6 ft 4 in and weight of 300 pounds, and for being good-nature, despite his intimidating size.
Dan was in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He served as an infantry sergeant in F Company, 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division in Korea, December 1951 to August 1952. He received a Purple Heart for wounds in combat.

Preston Tucker reveals plan to produce the Torpedo, a new 150 MPH car.
Preston Thomas Tucker was an American automobile designer and entrepreneur. He is most remembered for his 1948 Tucker Sedan, an automobile which introduced many features that have since become widely used in modern cars. The Tucker 48 (named after its model year) was an advanced automobile conceived by Preston Tucker and briefly produced in Chicago in 1948. Only 51 cars were made before the company folded on March 3, 1949, due to negative publicity initiated by the news media, a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation and a heavily publicized stock fraud trial (in which allegations were proven baseless in court with a full acquittal). Speculation exists that the Big Three automakers and Michigan senator Homer S. Ferguson also had a role in the Tucker Corporation's demise. (Click here to read more on the Tucker automobile)
