Did You Know

That in the city of Eagle, Idaho it is against
the law to sweep dirt into the street.

5-2-2: SWEEPING DEBRIS INTO STREETS: It shall be unlawful for any person to sweep any dirt, trash or rubbish from the interior of any building in the city onto any street, alley or sidewalk in the city. (Ord. 1, 5-24-1971)

The most abundant metal in the Earth's crust is aluminum.

Even though aluminum is abundant in the crust, the most abundant element in the entire Earth is iron, which makes up a large part of the Earth's core.

The youngest movie star to win an Academy Award was Shirley Temple who won an Oscar in 1934 at the age of 6.

Babe Ruth wore a cabbage leaf under his hat while playing baseball, and he used to change it every two innings.

Babies' eyes do not produce tears until the baby is
approximately six to eight weeks old.

FOOD TRIVIA

Picture
Saffron, made from the dried stamens of cultivated crocus flowers.

Saffron, the yellow-orange stigmas from a small purple saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), commonly known as Rose of Saffron, is the world's most expensive spice. That's because each flower provides only three (3) red stigmas. One (1) ounce of saffron = approximately 14,000 of these tiny saffron threads. At a price of $2,000 to $10,000 a pound, saffron is considered the most expensive food on earth, way more than truffles, caviar, and real balsamic vinegar. Why is saffron so expensive - its because of the labor needed to produce saffron - it is so labor intensive!

Crocus
, is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family comprising 90 species of perennials growing from corms. Many are cultivated for their flowers appearing in autumn, winter, or spring. Crocuses are native to woodland, scrub, and meadows from sea level to alpine tundra in central and southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, on the islands of the Aegean, and across Central Asia to Xinjiang Province in western China.

Music Trivia

Picture

Crystal Gayle became the first female artist in country music history to reach Platinum sales with her 1977 album, "We Must Believe in Magic".

Garth Brooks' self-titled debut album barely made Billboard's Country Albums chart, as it debuted at No. 71 on the May 20, 1989 chart.

Before Johnny Cash married June Carter, and before Waylon Jennings married Jessi Colter, and the two men were picking up the pieces from recent divorces, they shared a pad at the Fontaine Royal Apartments in Madison, Tennessee, just north of Nashville.

Kris Kristofferson once worked as a commercial helicopter pilot for a south Louisiana firm called Petroleum Helicopters International.

One of those is the highest waterfall, it is held by Venezuela’s Angel Falls.

With a height of 3,212 ft, Angel Falls defines majesty. Its greatest single drop measures 2,648 ft, with other rapids and cascades combining to form the remaining height.

Angel Falls is named after the American aviator Jimmie Angel. On November 18, 1933, he became the first person to fly over them, thus sharing their existence with the public and forever linking himself to one of Earth’s true natural wonders.

Located in the Guiana Highlands in the state of Bolívar, the falls sit deep in the Venezuelan jungle and to this day remain very difficult to reach. The falls sit on the Churú River, which flows into the Caroní. They flow approximately 160 miles southeast of Ciudad Bolívar, the 11th-largest city in Venezuela.

To put the majesty of Angel Falls into perspective, consider its height in relation to some of the world’s other famous waterfalls. Niagara Falls, on the Canadian-American border, measures a height of 165 ft, nearly 20 times shorter. And southern Africa’s Victoria Falls drops “just” 355 ft itself.

Estate Planning.............
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.  When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a wife with which to share his fortune.
One evening at an investment meeting he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.  Her natural beauty took his breath away. "I may look like just an ordinary man,” he said to her, "but in just a few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars." Impressed, the woman obtained his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at estate planning than men.

Liberty Bell cracks (again)
The most common story about the second cracking of the bell is that it happened when the bell was rung upon the 1835 death of the Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall. This story originated in 1876, when the volunteer curator of Independence Hall, Colonel Frank Etting, announced that he had ascertained the truth of the story. While there is little evidence to support this view, it has been widely accepted and taught. Other claims regarding the crack in the bell include stories that it was damaged while welcoming Lafayette on his return to the United States in 1824, that it cracked announcing the passing of the British Catholic Relief Act 1829, and that some boys had been invited to ring the bell, and inadvertently damaged it. David Kimball, in his book compiled for the National Park Service, suggests that it most likely cracked sometime between 1841 and 1845, either on the Fourth of July or on Washington's Birthday.                             CLICK HERE TO READ FULL STORY

Ernest Borgnine, American actor (Ice station Zebra, Marty, McHales-Navy), dies from renal failure at 95

Looking back on Hollywood, Borgnine once remarked: “Ever since they opened the floodgates with Clark Gable saying, ‘Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn,’ somebody’s ears pricked up and said, ‘Oh boy, here we go!’. Writers used to make such wonderful pictures without all that swearing, all that cursing. And now it seems that you can’t say three words without cursing. And I don’t think that’s right.”

Weekly Horoscope: For July 5, 2015  by Georgia Nicols
This is for the week of July 5th thru July 11
All Signs This week is straightforward. Admittedly, the Sun opposite Pluto on Monday morning will trigger power struggles; and by Wednesday, people are contrite. Thursday and Friday are excellent days to party. Unfortunately, Saturday is a bummer. Make note of this and plan your fun for Friday. This is the last full month with Jupiter in Leo. Jupiter will not return to Leo until 2027. Next month, Jupiter enters Virgo, ushering in a whole year of fresh, new luck for everyone, with a special bonus for Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Health and wellness will be even more in vogue. It will be a tough year for hypochondriacs who can't leave being well-enough alone.
