I have a special request to ask of all our friends. We have two neighboring businesses just north of the Flea Market on the corner of the old Hwy 39 and McGee Road. Both of them have suffered some loss of business due to the opening of the new Alexander St / Hwy 39A bypass. If you would, please support both of them when you have a need for their product. Below are pictures of their places.

1898 - Will Kellogg invents Corn Flakes
The cereal that would make Kellogg famous came about by accident. While working on recipes for a healthy alternative to bread, Will Keith Kellogg, left a batch of boiled wheat sitting out in the sanitarium’s kitchen that was owned by his brother John, causing the wheat to go stale. With money tight, the Kellogg brothers couldn’t afford to just throw away perfectly good food. So they put the wheat through a dough roller, hoping to get thin sheets of compressed wheat—but got flakes instead.

Last classic VW Beetle rolls off the line July 30, 2003
The car produced in Puebla that day was the last so-called "classic" VW Beetle, which is not to be confused with the redesigned new Beetle that Volkswagen introduced in 1998. (The new Beetle resembles the classic version but is based on the VW Golf.) The roots of the classic Beetle stretch back to the mid-1930s
1871 July 30: New York, New York, A Staten Island ferryboat exploded

The Staten Island ferryboat Westfield exploded her boiler at Whitehall ferry New York at twenty minutes past one o'clock Sunday afternoon. Between 300 and 400 persons were on board at the time of the sad affair. The front of the boiler was suddenly blown out, lodging in the bow, thirty feet distant. The forward part of the boat, upper cabin and all, was instantly shivered and split into a thousand pieces. As an eye witness expressed it, "the forward part of the boat was lifted fifty feet in the air, the smoke stack fell, and everything was buried in the hold. Many persons were blown overboard."
